The Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) is executing extensive nationwide readiness initiatives to guarantee seamless and dependable electricity delivery throughout the upcoming 2019 Ethiopian New Year holiday.
The festive period traditionally witnesses a marked rise in power consumption as customers join in celebrations, exerting added stress on the infrastructure. To counter this, the Utility is intensifying its focus on mitigating service disruptions and power quality issues that may arise during the holidays.
Among the key preparatory activities undertaken the inspection of 2,110 kilo meter distribution lines and 8 thousand transformers inspections have been done.
In addition, 178 transformers operating beyond capacity have been upgraded to avert potential power outages on the holiday eve - 88 in Addis Ababa and 90 across regional cities.
In parallel, emergency maintenance teams have been mobilized and deployed across all operational units of the Utility. Standing by around the clock, these crews are prepared to respond swiftly to any unforeseen outages and expedite service restoration, guaranteeing reliable power supply throughout the holiday season.
Recharge services for prepaid meters will be available at all service centers nationwide on the holiday eve until 6:00 p.m., with selected centers remaining open on the holiday itself. However, prepaid customers are strongly advised to check their balance and top up well in advance to avoid any inconvenience from power interruptions during the festive period.
Finally, customers are invited to report any service-related issues or share information through the Utility's customers contact center - 905 or 904, via its official social media platforms, or by visiting the nearest service center.
